Bruichladdich Yellow Submarine III 14 Year Old Whisky A 14-year-old Islay single malt, distilled from 100% Scottish barley and matured entirely on Islay, reflecting the island’s maritime environment throughout its life. Aged in 75% first-fill bourbon casks and 25% French red wine casks, it carries both tradition and experimentation in its DNA. Bottled at 54.2% ABV, it represents not just a whisky, but a continuation of Bruichladdich’s identity: independent, unconventional, and deeply tied to Islay’s stories. The name traces back to an unusual event in 2005 on the island of Islay, when local fishermen discovered a bright yellow, remote-controlled Ministry of Defence submarine stranded offshore. The object was recovered and eventually returned, but the story quickly became local folklore. Bruichladdich marked the moment with a special release titled “Yellow Submarine”, turning an odd maritime incident into whisky history. This playful, irreverent spirit actually fits the distillery’s wider identity. The “Whisky of Mass Distinction” series itself began in 2004, after a bizarre misunderstanding in which Bruichladdich was flagged by US intelligence as a potential site for weapons of mass destruction due to shipments of copper used in its stills. Instead of dismissing the story, the distillery embraced it, building an entire creative release series around the idea of misinterpretation, humour and independence. • Buttery shortbread, honeyed grains and creme brulee, lifted by ginger spice and soft pink peppercorn. • Palate is silky and structured, delivering orchard fruits like apple and pear alongside vanilla cream, toasted nuts and gentle baking spice. • Finish is persistent and elegant, with lingering nutty warmth, soft spice and a trace of coastal salinity. Best served neat for full expression.
